Dos Palos Lion’s Club Fundraisers to Help Eagle Field
5th Annual Eagle Field Drags -May 17th and 18th
29th Annual Eagle Field Dinner Dance - May 31st, 2014
Enjoy a fine catered dinner and listen to the sensational 1940’s music of the 18-piece Knight Sounds Big Band, all of this in an ambience that takes you back to when this was an active US Army Air Force flight training base.
In 2013 we had a problem with a high water table, which softened the ground and prevented the heavy aircraft from coming in. The terrific news is that we recently installed nearly two miles of drain pipe that has significantly lowered the water level, which means the flight line ought to be packed with aircraft. We understand there may even be an “attack” by a couple of German planes, forcing us to defend ourselves with our trusty fire-breathing anti-aircraft gun and jeep-mounted machine guns.
Folks typically dress semi-formal; but you can put on that old uniform, or wear civilian outfits from the era. Enhancing the wartime feel will be authentically attired re-enactors. The dance contest, which will include some swing dance-club members, is guaranteed to brighten your evening. You will want to bid on an array of antiques and other interesting items at our silent auction.
All profits go into a special Lion’s Club account dedicated to maintaining and improving Eagle Field. Last year, using revenues from the Vintage Drag Races and the Fly-in, we screwed down (10,000 screws) and painted the large hangar roof and re-surfaced portions of the exterior of the barracks. This year we will complete the barracks stucco job and repair the roofs again (a constant thing), and hopefully repair and extend the runway. The Lion’s Club has helped to make Eagle Field a community effort, and your attendance at this dinner and other events, such as the vintage drag races on May 17/18, are what keeps the dream alive. WE NEED YOU!!

There will be a shuttle to the Vagabond Hotel ONLY, with runs approximately every hour beginning at 9PM. The shuttle stop is at the Quonset Hut. If you need an earlier ride, please call Michelle (925 383-3916) a few days before to make arrangements.
RVs: Are welcome for ticketed guests only. Self-contained RVs please, as we have NO hookups. The ideal RV arrival time is Friday through 1 PM Saturday, but you are welcome to come in Thursday. If you plan to use a generator, please try to park in such a way as to minimize disturbance of others. If you park with your windows facing northwest you will get a good breeze at night to cool things down a bit.
Directions: The best directions to the field are on the Eagle Field website, www.eaglefield.net. But, if you wish to use MapQuest or another web-based mapping system, please use 11100 W. Eagle Ave, Firebaugh, CA 93622 as the destination address. Typically, these mapping systems take you quite a ways out of the way to get here, so a road map or the Eagle Field website directions are preferable.
